Consorte Garrafeira 2020
Consorte Garrafeira 2020 is a limited-edition white wine produced by Adega da Vara, located in Fundões, Castelo de Paiva, in the Minho region of Portugal. This single-varietal wine is made exclusively from the Arinto grape, locally known as Chapeludo.
Vinification & Aging
Harvest: Handpicked in the third week of September 2020, with careful selection of the grape bunches. The grapes were transported to the winery in ventilated 20 kg crates.
Vinification: After destemming, the grapes were gently pressed in a 19th-century wooden press, allowing for light skin contact. The must underwent static cold decantation and was fermented with indigenous yeasts in used French oak barrels, without temperature control.
Aging: The wine matured on fine lees in the same barrels for 18 months, with bâtonnage. After a gentle filtration, it was bottled in July 2022, following the biodynamic calendar.
Tasting Notes
Color: Bright straw yellow with good intensity and citrus reflections.
Aroma: Clean, complex, and deep. Aromatic notes of yellow flowers, ripe citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit, and hints of aromatic herbs like lemon thyme stand out, supported by subtle spicy nuances like vanilla.
Palate: Dry, creamy, with vibrant acidity, a well-balanced structure, and a long, persistent finish.
Food Pairing
This wine is highly versatile and pairs well with fresh seafood, grilled fish, white meats, and vegetarian dishes.
Serving Recommendations
Temperature: Serve between 8°C and 10°C to fully appreciate its freshness and complexity.
Consorte Garrafeira 2020 reflects Adega da Vara’s commitment to crafting wines that express the unique character of the Arinto grape and the terroir of Castelo de Paiva, delivering a distinctive and memorable tasting experience.
