Technical Sheet – Quinta de Arcossó
The Essence of the Vineyard
The Quinta de Arcossó boasts a unique terroir rooted in a 10.5-hectare plot, part of a 12-hectare vineyard planted in 2003. Nestled on a hillside at a medium altitude (375 meters) with southern exposure and a pronounced 20% slope, the vineyard thrives on granite-based soils, which imbue the wines with a profound and mineral-driven character. This environment, shaped by meticulous practices, achieves a perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
The Art of Winemaking
The grapes were carefully harvested on September 13th and 18th, capturing their peak expression. Each day, 12 skilled hands worked on a fully manual berry-by-berry destemming process, selecting only those in pristine condition. No overripe berries were included, ensuring unparalleled homogeneity in ripeness and minimizing deviations from the ideal maturity profile.
The winemaking process was a masterpiece:
Pre-fermentation maceration for 5 days at temperatures below 10°C, preserving the primary aromas and freshness.
Foot treading performed with precision, followed by a 15-day alcoholic fermentation in 500-liter French oak barrels. Gentle macerations were achieved through the traditional use of the “macaco,” ensuring a controlled and delicate extraction.
Aging and LongevityAfter fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, where time and wood shaped its refined and complex character. Every step of the process was carried out without mechanical intervention, preserving the artisanal purity of production. After bottling, the wine rested in cellars for 8 months, further refining its structure and elegance. Unfined and unfiltered, this wine retains all its natural authenticity and integrity.
Tasting Notes
On the nose, it reveals a vigorous bouquet with layers of ripe fruit – black cherries and blue berries – intertwined with notes of dark chocolate and subtle toasty oak. On the palate, it delivers a full-bodied and structured profile, where freshness accompanies powerful yet refined tannins, culminating in a long and memorable finish.
